When the Designer Gets Married

You know it’s going to be a good wedding when it’s the designer’s big day. Mint Springs Farm designer and co-owner, Bec Broaddus, tied the knot here at the farm this winter. And, of course. it was a total showstopper! It was intimate and romantic and included so many fun experiences for her guests. Bec assembled her dream team of Nashville wedding professionals and held her wedding where her heart is, Mint Springs Farm. Whitney Woodall was there to capture every last detail, keep scrolling to read and see more of what it looks like when the designer gets married.

Florals & Decor

Bec LOVES florals and wanted them to be a statement piece of her wedding. Angela Sadler, of The Bloom House, was there to take Bec’s dream designs and turn them into a reality. She’s a pink girl through and through but wanted to showcase the color in a seasonal, mature, and warm point of view. Greenery is beautiful, but it was one foliage she wanted to stay away from. She loved the idea of using dried florals with rich oranges, burgundy, and caramel tones. The farm is full of hydrangea bushes, and this was a perfect way to incorporate dried florals. This also made it that much more special – all the florals had a little piece of Mint Springs Farm.

Floral installations over centerpieces on the tables were something Bec decided on early in the planning. She loved the idea of tons of candles and wanted the room to feel warm and inviting, like a family dinner party. Growing up, holiday family dinners were a BIG deal in her house. Her mom would always set the table with candles in their dining room, and they would dim the chandelier that hung over the dining room table. Her dad would cook multiple-course dinners every Christmas, and it was always one of her favorite dinners of the year. She wanted to recreate that feeling for her wedding. She wanted her wedding to be an intimate setting full of laughter, family, and good food.

grand floral installation

The grand floral installation over the head table turned out better than Bec could have imagined. She wanted the base of the design to be dried florals with florals added that naturally hung like amaranthus and orchids. The modern touches came in when she requested most of the roses used to be reflexed, which brings a big bold design to the arrangement. The combination of pinks and autumn tones really captured the warm feeling she was seeking.

ground ceremony florals in the

Bec chose to have ground florals in the ceremony space that she could re-purpose in the reception barn. She wanted something a little untraditional, so having the florals on the ground and on the ends of the guest tables was a must. It made guests feel as though the florals were surrounding them when on the dance floor, and it really made the room feel intimate!

She’s still not over her bridal bouquet. Bec really wanted something a little untraditional. The pink tones and a tint of caramel were just perfect for her personality, yet it felt seasonally appropriate as well. She loved that it was cohesive with the rest of the floral design. A traditional white bouquet was just not for her. It was completed with a brooch from her late grandmother.

She really wanted to bring in some texture and pattern to the table. Her husband loves oriental rugs, and the linen she chose had a similar pattern to them without being over the top. The gray wasn’t too loud as she didn’t want to compete with the florals. The place setting was clean and modern, again not competing with the linen or the florals. She didn’t overlook the chairs. The crossback wood chairs included at Mint Springs Farm are beautiful. However, chairs are something people can overlook and can either bring the design together or leave it lacking. Bec liked the darker tones to contrast from the blush and caramel floral tones. The black flatware, black ribbon on the menu card, and the perfect pop all contributed to the design. This led her to the chairs – the black bistro chairs really completed the look and brought all the elements together.

From The Bloom House

I loved Bec’s design from the minute I saw her inspo pics.  As I dissected the photos to figure out what florals we needed, We came up with a mix of dried, preserved, and even tinted florals.  I loved the movement and dimension of her aesthetic that was different than most designs you see at Mint Springs.  The combination of reflexed roses, tinted orchids and dried hydrangeas with hanging amaranthus ended up being so stunning!!!  I love getting inside a bride’s head and really trying to nail exactly what they want. I think our team did that so well for her and I was so honored to be a part of it!Angela, The Bloom House

Guest Experience

Bec tells all her clients that it doesn’t matter what the trends are – they should do what makes their wedding scream THEM! That’s what she and her husband thought about when they planned their guest experience.

With it being winter, they wanted to offer guests something warm before the ceremony. A Coffee and Hot Chocolate Bar was available before the ceremony began.

newspaper wedding program

The newspaper was such a fun way to tell their guests about their love story, share information about the night, and provide something to read while they were waiting for the ceremony to start. In the paper, they included a crossword puzzle, which was perfect to do before the ceremony. With a smaller guest count, they didn’t have a printed seating chart but instead included it in the paper. A timeline of the evening was included so guests weren’t left guessing about what was next.

A live painter photo booth with the incredibly talented Lauren O’Brien was something Bec was SO excited about for their wedding. She wanted something that felt a little vintage and served as a keepsake for guests to take home. Lauren and her team knocked it out of the park. Bec heard that guests took their paintings home and framed them – that was exactly what she wanted. Something fun and memorable that was about the guests, not them.

G Catering Wedding Caterer

Dinner and a show! Bec and her husband knew their crowd wasn’t going to dance for two hours, and they didn’t want to either. The couple chose an exquisite plated and coursed dinner catered by G Catering the highlight of the evening. They wanted it to feel like going to a really nice restaurant but also getting the Nashville music experience. They booked Clare Dunn for dinner and had a private writers round. It felt like attending the Bluebird Cafe but having a steakhouse dinner. That was their goal, and they couldn’t have loved it more.

Take home wedding cakes

Take the cake HOME. Bec is a big dessert person, so she knew she wanted options. During dinner, they had a family-style dessert tray to end the meal. Afterward, they had 45 minutes of dancing. During that time, they privately cut the cake. The idea was for each couple or family to have their own cake by The Bearded Baker to take home, continuing the celebration after the party was over. It was a sweet way to end the night!
