What is a Wedding Weather Contingency Plan?

A weather contingency plan is a backup plan just in case the weather doesn’t cooperate with your original outdoor event plans. It outlines alternative options, like moving the ceremony indoors or setting up tents, to make sure the event still runs smoothly, regardless of rain, wind, tornadoes (yes, this happens) or extreme temperatures. The goal is to have a plan for unexpected weather and keep everything on track. If the weather has other plans on your big day, you need to be prepared.
Mint Springs Farm is Prepared

If you’re not getting married at the farm, we highly recommend talking to your planner and venue about what can be done in the event of a weather system on your wedding day. If you are getting married at Mint Springs Farm, you never have to worry about a weather contingency plan because we already have one. Keep reading to learn about what we do when the weather rolls in.
Our Eyes are on the Radar
Our planner consults with staff first thing in the morning and keeps eyes on the radar constantly – we look at three different weather apps to try to find the most accuracy
Versatile Ceremony Pavilion

We have plexiglass side panels that can be popped into the sides of the ceremony space if the rain is pouring down sideways. The front of the ceremony, we have glass sliding doors we can shut to protect the couple from rain and the wind.

The Cocktail Hour Pivot

We make the rain plan call for cocktail hour 3 hours prior to the ceremony time. If we do have to make that call, we can easily transition cocktail hour to being inside. Dependent on guest count, we try to have everyone upstairs, but if there is a higher guest count we will have guests both up and down stairs with both bars open inside. If it stops raining during cocktail hour, we can pass beverages and apps outside and open the side double doors to allow easier access in and out.

We Help Your Wedding Party and Guests Stay Comfortable

Our crew team helps to golf cart guests down from the parking lot so they don’t have to walk in the rain too much. We also provide clear top umbrellas for guests and for the bridal party for photos.
We Have Options for Photos

For photos, we have the option to take all photos in the ceremony Pavillon or on the porch of the bridal suite. If there is a break in the rain, the planner communicates with the photo team and we will get everyone where they need to be for some photos outside. If it is absolutely torrential downpours/tornadoes, the couple is absolutely allowed to come back on a different day to re-take photos on the property. Or the photographer can get some really cool shots of the couple in the rain!
What if I’m having Fireworks?

If there are fireworks scheduled, the planner and the pyro tech company are in constant communication. Most fireworks are still set off even in rain, but if there is a pocket of lighter or no rain, we can shift the schedule around to shoot them off so not all guests get soaking wet. The same goes for our sparkler exit, if the rain is light we can proceed and send you out in style!
